I0196 Review of Metering Asset data transferred from MAMs to the CDSP

A REC working group to discuss I0196 was launched today, 16 September 2025.

I0196 Review of Metering Asset data transferred from MAMs to the CDSP – REC Portal

The working Group, which aims to address data discrepancies and management of message rejections within the gas industry.

Key Objectives & Approach

  • The primary goal is to identify and fix the root causes of rejections, which contribute to data mismatches among different parties (Meter Asset Managers, suppliers, shippers, and the CDSP).

  • The working group will adopt a collaborative approach, exploring several “strands of inquiry” to develop a comprehensive solution.

  • The final solution will be a composite of effective strategies identified through these discussions.

Identified Strands of Inquiry

A number of areas were identified for further discussion and solution development including:

Process Weaknesses: Analyse where data transfer fails between parties, particularly related to metering assets and readings.

Validation against Standing Data: Examine the validation process at each stage of the data flow to determine what checks are necessary and if a universal validation approach can be adopted.

Data Cleansing: Evaluate the role of data cleansing activities, acknowledging that while useful, they will not solve the underlying issue unless the core problem is fixed.

Digital Data Repository: Discuss the potential for a central digital repository of meter attributes, including pictures and specifications, to reduce data entry errors.

Appointment Flows: Explore issues with the appointment of Meter Asset Managers and how these processes impact data flow and rejections.

Incorrect Recipient: Investigate if data is failing to reach the correct supplier, causing rejections.

The formal strands of enquiry have been agreed as :

  1. Meters and Meter Readings: Process Weaknesses
  2. Validation
  3. Data Cleanse
  4. Digital Data Repository

Next Steps

  • The group has agreed on the overall approach and will now dive into the details of the six identified strands.

  • The next meeting will be scheduled for mid-October, likely a two-hour session, to allow for more in-depth discussion on these topics.

  • Action items include drafting individual papers for each strand of inquiry and resolving issues with access to documents on the REC portal.
